Ambient Light Rejecting Projector Screen Paint Reviews

CAM AV Solutions

Impressive performance. We were looking for a solution for an ALR projection screen for a large auditorium with high light levels but in a large size which was proving cost prohibitive, then we found Smarter Surfaces. I have to complement the technical support and the product has been fantastic, excellent value and very effective.

Good product and good support was provided, and will use again. Thomas J

This product was identified by the client for a church hall and to be fair has worked very well. Painted on similar to an oil paint with no issues, surface preparation is very important.

FAQ's

Once applied, allow 24 hours for the paint to fully dry before use. Set up your projector as usual and direct it towards the painted wall. For attaining the best visual experience, ensure your projector is properly calibrated. Kindly refer to the owner's manual for further guidance.

Yes, Smarter Surfaces Ambient Light Rejecting Screen Paint works with blended projections. Also, we would like to mention that when merging multiple projectors onto a single surface, seamless blending is key. This is exactly where our ALR screen paint steps in.

Designed for precise colour accuracy, uniform brightness, and exceptional light diffusion, Smarter Surfaces paint ensures that blended projections appear smooth, without harsh edges or brightness inconsistencies.

So now get over those bulky and expensive physical screens. Our paint can magically transform any surface into a stunning projection area, thus delivering a cost-effective and immersive visual experience for theatres, art installations, and large-scale displays.

Yes. So whether you’re watching a classic film in 2D or diving into an immersive 3D experience, Smarter Surfaces ALR screen paint delivers absolutely flawless performance. When used with 3D glasses, it ensures that depth, clarity, and vibrancy remain intact, thus bringing visuals to life exactly as intended.

3D projection works by displaying two slightly different images that overlap on the screen. Special optical filters polarise the light, thus allowing each eye to see only one image through 3D glasses, creating the illusion of depth.

However, if your screen alters light polarity, the 3D effect is lost. That’s why our polarity-preserving paint ensures the projected image maintains its original polarisation, delivering an accurate, crisp and fully immersive 3D experience.

A great viewing experience isn’t just about visuals. It’s about sound clarity too. Smarter Surfaces Projection Paints are acoustically transparent, thus meaning they don’t interfere with sound waves.

Here’s what testing on a 12mm gypsum board revealed :

Unpainted board SAC (Sound Absorption Coefficient) : 0.04-0.07
Painted Board SAC = 0.04-0.07

This shows that there's no difference. This therefore, also proves that our paint doesn’t absorb or distort sound, thus ensuring your audio remains crisp and clear, just as it should be. Ideal for home theatres, auditoriums, and professional setups.

This innovative Ambient Light Rejecting Projection Screen Paint uses unique pigment particle technology to scatter ambient light ingress from the horizontal plane which protects the projected light beam by reducing light interference.

If it's a smooth surface, it's probably a great canvas for ALR Paint. This versatile formula works wonders on wallboards, wood, plaster, metal, concrete, and composites, essentially, any non-textured surface. However, it's designed for indoor use only. So for outdoor applications, check out Smarter Surfaces outdoor projection paint range.

A good foundation makes all the difference. So we highly recommend applying the ALR Paint to a previously primed or painted surface. However, if you are working with a bare or untreated wall, then start with one coat of White Primer for attaining a flawless finish.

Absolutely yes. ALR Paint is as safe as houses. In fact, even safer. We say so with confidence because it is :

• Solvent-free

• PFOA & PFOS-free

• 100% isocyanate-free

• Has very low VOC

Additionally, all Smarter Surfaces products meets the highest environmental and fire safety standards. However, as with any paint, we recommend wearing protective gloves during the application process.

Yes. Unlike other lower-quality alternatives that contain hazardous isocyanates, the Smarter Surfaces ALR Paint is completely free of these chemicals. Isocyanates require strict safety procedures and professional handling, but with ALR Paint, you can paint with confidence and without any worries as it’s completely safe for everyone.

Not at all. ALR Paint is fire-certified and has a high flashpoint of over 158°F (70°C). This makes it a completely safe choice for schools, homes, and offices where fire safety is a paramount concern.

Yes. Our low-odour, VOC-free formula makes it completely safe to use around both adults and children. Since it contains zero isocyanates, you won’t need to worry about harmful fumes. Just simply paint without any worries.

For a quick refresh, use compressed air ( that is available in handy aerosol cans) to blow away dust. However, if a deeper clean is needed, then just lightly dab the surface with a soft cloth dampened with warm water.

ALR Screen is suitable for use with projectors above 2000 lumens For attaining a cinema-quality experience, simply pair your ALR Screen with a projector of at least 2000 lumens. The brighter the projector, the more vibrant and crisp your visuals will be. So simply go for high lumens for obtaining the best results.

Our ALR Projection Paint boasts a gain value of 0.71 at 90°, thus striking the perfect balance between contrast, brightness and wide-angle visibility.

Application Guide for Ambient Light Rejecting Projector Screen Paint

How To Apply Ambient Light Rejecting Projector Screen Paint?

Ambient Light Rejecting Projector Screen Paint allows you to transform almost any smooth surface into a high-performance projection screen, perfect for rejecting ambient light and delivering a vibrant image.

Here’s how to get a flawless finish with the ALR Paint :

  • Step 1: A great screen starts with a smooth surface. So, ensure that the wall is dust-free, dry and free from loose material. Also, use the masking tape to define the projection area.
  • Step 2: For bare or untreated surfaces, apply a coat of White Primer to create a solid base.
  • Step 3: If there are any cracks or imperfections, simply fill them up, let them dry, and then sand the surface down with 120-grit sandpaper until it’s nice and smooth.
  • Step 4: Give the ALR Paint a good stir before use. For attaining the most optimal results, apply with a short-pile mohair or lint-free roller. While spraying is an option, a roller application is the go-to method for most users.

For those unsure about the product’s performance, request a sample pack to test it out.

We take pride in customer service and are always here to offer support and guidance. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
