Smart White Primer Paint is a high performance fast drying water based primer

Specially formulated to work as a base for all Smarter Surfaces products.

It has a high pigment content and uses a very high quality resin, which is essential for eliminating uneven and strongly coloured bases.

Critically, it also seals the surface before application of any of our functional coatings. This ensures the coating is not absorbed into the surface, for maximum performance.

For attaining a flawless finish, start by preparing your surface with Smart White Primer on smooth, absorbent areas. This ensures the base is primed to perfection and is free from any imperfections that might disrupt your work.

  • Step 1: Apply the first coat of primer, allow it to dry completely, then lightly sand it to achieve an even, smooth texture.
  • Step 2: Now apply the second coat, sand again if required, and repeat the process until the surface is impeccably smooth.

However, for more demanding surfaces like plaster or fresh wood, you may need a few extra coats and sanding in order to achieve the ultimate smoothness that ensures seamless whiteboard paint application. The result is a pristine, durable surface that is ready for your creative ideas to take shape.

FAQ's

Before diving into the application process of our Smart White Primer, make sure to prepare the surface. For this, you must ensure that it’s smooth, dry, and free of any imperfections. The smoother the surface, the better is its finish. Use a brush or roller to apply the first coat of primer evenly. Let it dry fully, and then give it a light sand to smooth out any bumps. Now apply a second coat if necessary, and sand again if required, for attaining a flawless finish. If you are working with new wood or plaster, you might need a few extra coats and a little more sanding to get everything just right. This high performance primer can also be spray applied.
Smart White Primer is actually your secret weapon for better adhesion of performance top coats. It not only boosts the durability of the final finish but also prepares the surface perfectly for specialty coatings.
The number of coats depends on the material and condition of the surface. In general, two coats should help attain a smooth, non-absorbent base. However, for tricky surfaces like new wood or plaster, you might need a few extra coats, along with sanding, to get a beautifully smooth finish, especially when prepping for something like whiteboard or magnetic paint.
Allow Smart White Primer to dry fully before applying your top coat. This usually takes a few hours, though it can vary depending on the temperature and humidity in the room. However, if you are in a rush, then introducing a bit of heat can speed up the drying process.

Absolutely yes. Sanding after the primer coat ensures you have achieved a nice, smooth surface ready for the final finish. This is especially crucial when applying specialty coatings like whiteboard paint.
Smart White Primer is extremely versatile. It works wonders on a wide variety of surfaces such as wood, plaster, glass, drywall and other similar absorbent materials or surfaces with low surface tension. So if it’s a surface that needs prepping, this primer has certainly got you covered.
For achieving the best results, particularly when preparing surfaces for specialty coatings like whiteboard or magnetic finishes, a high-quality foam or mohair roller is your best bet. However, for larger areas, make sure to opt for bigger rollers. If you go for a mohair roller, just ensure to remove any loose fibres before you begin. It will ensure a flawless finish every time.
